Nike Footwear Design Division StudioAfter winning an invitational design competition for the consolidation of Nike's footwear design division Hennebery Eddy Architects designed a space for creative designers from different product lines to work together. Fifty-two footwear designers were co-located to the dramatic 10,000 square foot mezzanine of the Mia Hamm Building on the Nike World Campus in Portland, Oregon.
A crucial part of the co-location effort was our design of a workstation system with retracting screen panels to control the degree of privacy between the stations. To enliven the edge of the mezzanine and encourage interaction, circulation paths were redirected to move through the space, rather than around it. In addition, two large tensile fabric structures and a large presentation wall were added to the mezzanine edge.
